Your Winter Beauty Arsenal

Cold weather can be a nice change, but not necessarily for your skin. Check out these tips and products to help banish beauty bummers like cracked lips and a flaky face!
Chapped and Cracked Lips
The number one way to prevent dry lips is not to lick them! Your saliva contains acids that break down food, so imagine the damage they do to your kissable lips. Plus, licking instantly removes any natural oils on your lips. To prevent dry lips in the winter, generously coat lips with an ultra hydrating lip balm like Lip Salvation.
Our hands are always exposed to the elements, and all that dry winter air dries out the skin on your hands faster than you think. Protect them by wearing gloves when you go outdoors and apply hand lotion every time you wash your hands. As a reminder, keep a small lotion dispenser near the sink to moisturize immediately after. If you do the dishes often, don’t forget to use the rubber gloves.
Also keep a tube of hand cream on your night stand so you don't forget to lather up before bed. To avoid getting your bed moisturized, sleep wearing cotton gloves. This also allows for better absorption of the product.
Kick off your shoes and soak them in warm water scented with a soothing essential oil than gently scrub away dead skin cells with a pumice stone at least once a week. Allow your feet to heal at night by applying a thick coating of cream and slip some socks on over. I prefer to wear my Renew Gel Socks that have a gel lining for intensive softening. They contain active ingredients such as vitamin E, jojoba, and grapeseed oil. In addition, they are washable and reusable.
Renew Rough and Tough Elbows
Elbows have a thick top layer of skin that is tough to keep soft and smooth. To maintain baby soft elbows, exfoliate with a hydrating scrub like BSB's Pot of Gold Scrub twice a week followed by an application of moisturizing body cream everyday.
The cold weather makes it easy for our skin to flake out. The first step in preventing this unsightly look is to wash your face with a low-foaming mild cleanser that is free from alcohol. Next, moisturize your skin throughout the day with a light moisturizing lotion like La Belle's Botanical Moisturizing Fluid. I recommend applying in the morning and afternoon. Before bed, opt for a heavy-duty lotion that will coat generously like our Seal It In.
If your skin flakes excessively, I recommend trying a light chemical peel. Peels help remove the top dead skin layer. My favorite facial that includes a good peel is the Age Reverse Lifting Facial offered at both LaBelle Day Spas in Palo Alto.
