The Buzz-worthy Benefits of Honey
Posted on September 26 2017
Did you know that September is national honey month? While you're probably used to adding this sweet and sticky treat in your tea, you might not know that honey can also be a wonderful addition to your skin care routine. Honey is actually the answer to several skin issues, and it has been used in beauty routines since ancient times. Honey works wonders on your skin because of its antibacterial properties and skin-saving antioxidants. Whether you’re looking for a powerful acne treatment or preserving a youthful complexion, honey can help! It has the ability to repair, restore, and maintain hydration in your skin. Sure honey can be a sticky mess, but it's worth it. Check out the following skincare benefits of honey here:
Honey is known to clarify skin. Due to its sticky consistency it’s able to grasp blackheads and whiteheads and unclog pores. It’s a natural source of alpha hydroxy acids, which encourages exfoliation, making it easier for skin to absorb moisturizing elements.
DIY Cleanser: Place 3/4 teaspoon of honey in your palm and then add your oil or spice of choice. My recommendations are either cinnamon, lavender, coconut or lemon. Cinnamon treats inflamed or oily skin. Lemon treats age spots and dark skin patches. Coconut treats dry and flaky skin. Last but not least, Lavender balances skin levels of moisture. Apply the jelly to dry skin in circular motions, massaging it generously. After a few minutes, rinse-off with warm water.
Due to the antibacterial properties of honey, pimples can be stopped in their tracks before they get worse. Honey simultaneously reduces irritation, inflammation, and redness. If your acne treatment dries out your skin, honey can help revitalize it.
DIY Acne Treatment: Grab a cotton swab and dab onto your blemish. Combine with some tea tree oil and lavender oil for a stronger cleansing while still keeping it natural.
The natural sugars of honey act like a humectant, which means it is able to hold onto water allowing for better absorption. In addition, skin is left hydrated without an oily feel. It’s also great for slowing down the anti-aging process and giving your complexion a boost.
DIY Mask: Create your own Moisturizing Mask by spreading one teaspoon of raw honey on clean, dry skin, and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water afterwards and voila! Your face will feel soft and supple.
Bella Schneider Beauty recently introduced BALANCING ACT to its mask collection, the ultimate detox treatment infused with honey to refresh and balance your complexion.
Sweet Tip: For maximum and accurate results, use high-quality raw unprocessed honey. High quality honey contains phenols, enzymes, and compounds like flavonoids and organic acids. My favorite types of honey for skincare are Buckwheat because it’s highly moisturizing and Manuka because it is good for acne prone skin.
